I used four complete balls of Cleckheaton Vintage Hues yarn (#1268) for this project. (The Vintage Hues line is now, sadly, discontinued.) As you can see from the picture, it's as long as I am tall, and being pure wool, it's incredibly snug.

There's no pattern; I sort of made it up as I went along. I like the look of blackberry stitch, and I liked the combination of the pattern with the multicoloured yarn.

It's not a trick of the light; one half is brighter than the other. I didn't buy enough wool the first time, and so half the wool is from one dye lot and half from another. The camera flash makes it really obvious, but to the naked eye, you don't notice it unless it's pointed out.

That's gorgeous! I love the variant dye look, but then I'm fond of errors that add interest.

If I hadn't already knitted half when I bought the two other balls, I might have mixed it up and alternated the dye lots, but I didn't feel like undoing hours of work just to make the dye variation more subtle. As it is, most people just don't notice unless it's pointed out. The camera flash just makes it really obvious.

I love scarves. I knitted way too many of them the past two years. This year, I'm knitting a fair bit of baby stuff for a friend who's expecting her first child. Lots of soakers and a baby blanket and a little hoodie cardigan. :D

The colour variations were a natural feature of the yarn, which was what I loved about it. It was made up of two strands, and both strands changed colour along the length, so you rarely got the same combination of hues. It made joining on a new ball a bit tricky once or twice, but it really does make it a completely unique, unrepeatable project.

It is! That's every little scrap of four balls of yarn, so the length of the skeins was perfect for a me-sized scarf!

Oh! I love the Vintage hues line! I'm doing an entrelac cardigan in it. I'll have to see if I can stockpile some extra balls

I'm really disappointed that it's gone. I wanted to make something in the purple/yellow shift colour, but I didn't buy any last year when I should have. :(
