Swallowtail Shawl

I knit up a Swallowtail Shawl in KnitPick's Shadow (Jewels Heather). I'd had the yarn in my stash for maybe two years (possibly three?). I frogged it twice, but then from my new cast-on to completion, this was done in ten days. I am unreasonably proud of it.

Shadow is an absolutely gorgeous yarn. The camera doesn't pick it up, but it's a blue and purple heather, very delicate looking. It's a bitch to wind though. (I should be getting a ball winder - also from KnitPicks - in the mail in the next day or so, so maybe I'll have a more favorable view in the future.)

What makes the yarn difficult to wind? Is it splitty?

It's sticky actually. It has the strange tendency to stick to itself (which also makes frogging somewhat hellish). If you can get past the stickiness, it's pretty good, though.
